That said, I’ve still given some a try, hoping I would like the writing and humor enough to overlook the genre. Unfortunately, they’ve all been either too wordy, too silly, or I just lost interest before getting very far. But it’s hard to ignore a game called Speed Dating for Ghosts, especially when it was releasing around Valentine’s Day on iOS.
After marriage, players may have the chance to have or adopt a child with their spouse. Players can also engage in fishing, cooking, crafting, and exploring procedurally-generated caves with materials and ores to mine or creatures to combat. Players can take on various quests to earn additional money or complete specific collections of materials (called “bundles”) to restore the town’s Community Center or pay certain amounts of money to complete JojaMart bundles. Completing bundles rewards players with various items, including seeds and tools. Completing multiple bundles grants players access to new areas and game mechanics, such as a desert.

If they don’t care for animals in general, just make note of that. If they find this speed dating question odd because everyone should like animals, you’re golden. Maybe their work and education are completely different. It’s a good way to see why they went down that road. Asking this speed dating question can also help you find out what you have in common.
The sessions usually take place at conferences with each individual slot lasting around 15 minutes, giving the author and the editor a short amount of time to discuss the paper and how it might fit with the journal. On a personal level, I came away with a hope or two for future collaboration, and hope to science speed date again in the future. Students are told to offer a “devastating” rejection to their peers’ written projects to help students learn to anticipate and address counterarguments. My biggest draw back to this lesson was that we don’t move around until the last 20 minutes of the period.
You play as an unidentified ghost that starts out by meeting Fran, a spectre with antlers, who runs the speed dating event. You’re then prompted to pick one of three rooms, each of which has three different ghosts in it who you’ll speed date with. You get to talk to each of the three ghosts once for a short time, followed by a second round of conversations with each of them. You are given dialogue options to direct the conversation, or respond to something they said. Once the two rounds are up, you choose which one you’d like to go on a date with. If they liked your responses enough, they’ll accept.

The show revolves around the Nerd’s commentary of shovelware and retro video games that he deems to be of particularly low quality, unfair difficulty, or poor design. Rolfe’s character, “the Nerd”, is a short-tempered, foul-mouthed video game collector who reviews old video games in the form reminiscent of insult comedies such as Mystery Science Theater 3000. The Nerd plays the game while picking apart its various technicalities, design flaws, and abnormalities in an effort to warn his viewers against playing the game. Other episodes have the Nerd reviewing consoles, peripherals, accessories, or games of a similar theme. The reviews are often prefaced with a short lecture about the games history or his own childhood experience, and interspersed with sketches and profanity-ridden comedic rants, among other various scripted elements.
Whether the end result of a speed review is a quick rejection or eventual publication, the speed review process provides an efficient and enjoyable way for editors to meet both their contributors and their readers. I look forward to conducting them at conferences to come….and maybe some day I’ll find that perfect author who sets my editorial heart aflutter. And, as on many speed dates, the answer is frequently “It was nice meeting you, but I don’t think we’re right for each other”. Of the 20 or so prospective authors I’ve met at these sessions, I believe that just one has submitted an article, plus another two or three were early stage graduate students who may submit pieces in the next few years. The speed dating cycle tends to get a little monotonous and repetitive, especially if you are looking to complete every ghosts story-line. I’ve never gone because the age match ups seem really bizarre.
I also love doing groups of two because each student feels more responsible for helping their “date” and getting the work completed together. I usually have the students put everything away and clear off all of the tables. Then, I have them put their bookbags against the walls so everyone can move around the room more easily.
